Key Messages

• Emissions: Albania emitted around 7 megatonnes CO₂e in 2024, about 0.01% of the global total.
• Per person: Emissions were around 2.5 tonnes per person per year, rated low on a scale where any level above zero adds warming.
• Trend: Emissions fell by around 0.38 megatonnes CO₂e a year, or 4.3% yearly, over the ten years to 2024. This was slightly faster than the 4% yearly decline needed globally for Net Zero in 2050 and warming of around 1.7 °C.
• What drives it: CO₂ made up around 55% of emissions, methane 31%, nitrous oxide 10% and F-gases 4%.
• Historic responsibility: Since 1851, Albania's emissions have produced around 1,010 megatonnes CO₂e of warming impact, about 0.03% of the global total, or around 3.7 tonnes per person per year.
