• Emissions: Brazil emitted around 2,823 megatonnes CO₂e in 2024, about 4.95% of the global total.
• Per person: Emissions were around 13.3 tonnes per person per year, rated extremely high on a scale where any level above zero adds warming.
• Trend: Emissions rose by around 44.3 megatonnes CO₂e a year, or 1.68% yearly, over the ten years to 2024, rather than the 4% yearly decline the world needs to achieve Net Zero in 2050 and limit warming to around 1.7 °C.
• What drives it: CO₂ made up around 72% of Brazil's emissions, methane 21%, nitrous oxide 7.2% and F-gases 0.7%.
• Historic responsibility: Since 1851, Brazil's emissions have produced around 197,000 megatonnes CO₂e of warming impact, around 5.04% of the global total, or around 15.8 tonnes per person per year population-weighted.
