• Emissions: Canada emitted around 816 megatonnes CO₂e in 2024, about 1.43% of the global total.
• Per person: This was around 20.5 tonnes per person per year, rated extremely high on a scale where any emissions above zero add warming.
• Trend: Emissions fell by around 8.5 megatonnes CO₂e a year, or 0.99% yearly, over the ten years to 2024-slower than the 4% yearly global decline needed for Net Zero in 2050 and around 1.7 °C warming.
• What drives it: CO₂ made up 79% of Canada's emissions, methane 14%, nitrous oxide 5.5% and F-gases 2.2%.
• Historic responsibility: Since 1851, Canada's emissions have produced around 86,200 megatonnes CO₂e of warming impact: 2.2% of the global total, or around 32.3 tonnes per person per year, rated extremely high.
