• Emissions: Chile emitted around 117 megatonnes CO₂e in 2024, about 0.2% of the global total.
• Per person: Emissions were around 5.9 tonnes per person per year, rated high on a scale where any level above zero adds warming.
• Trend: Emissions fell by around 1.9 megatonnes CO₂e a year, or about 1.5%, over the ten years to 2024, slower than the 4% yearly decline needed globally to achieve Net Zero in 2050 and limit warming to around 1.7 °C.
• What drives it: CO₂ makes up around 67% of emissions, methane 15%, F-gases 11% and nitrous oxide 6.2%.
• Historic responsibility: Since 1851, Chile's emissions have produced around 9,520 megatonnes CO₂e of warming impact, 0.24% of the global total. The population-weighted average was around 7.4 tonnes per person per year.
