Key Messages

• Emissions: Colombia emitted around 258 megatonnes CO₂e in 2024, about 0.45% of the global total.
• Per person: Emissions were around 4.9 tonnes per person per year, rated moderate on a scale where any level above zero adds warming.
• Trend: Emissions fell by around 2.64 megatonnes CO₂e a year, or 0.99% annually, over the ten years to 2024. This was slower than the 4% yearly global decline needed for Net Zero in 2050 and warming of around 1.7 °C.
• What drives it: CO₂ made up around 52% of emissions, methane 35%, nitrous oxide 9.1% and F-gases 4.2%.
• Historic responsibility: Since 1851, Colombia's emissions have produced around 34,000 megatonnes CO₂e of warming impact, 0.87% of the global total, or around 12 tonnes per person per year on a population-weighted basis, rated extremely high.
