• Emissions: Iceland emitted around 5.32 megatonnes CO₂e in 2024, around 0.01% of the global total.
• Per person: Emissions were around 13.5 tonnes per person per year, rated extremely high on a scale where any emissions above zero add warming.
• Trend: Emissions fell by around 0.06% a year over the ten years to 2024, far slower than the 4% yearly decline the world needs to achieve Net Zero in 2050 and limit warming to around 1.7 °C.
• What drives it: CO₂ makes up around 78% of Iceland's emissions, methane 10%, nitrous oxide 6.5% and F-gases 5.1%.
• Historic responsibility: Since 1851, Iceland's emissions have produced around 517 megatonnes CO₂e of warming impact, around 0.01% of the global total, averaging around 18.8 tonnes per person per year.
