• Emissions: Malaysia emitted around 390 megatonnes CO₂e in 2024, accounting for 0.68% of the global total.
• Per person: Emissions were around 11 tonnes per person per year in 2024, rated extremely high on a scale where any level above zero adds warming.
• Trend: Emissions fell by around 4.2 megatonnes CO₂e a year, or 1.08% yearly, over the ten years to 2024-slower than the 4% yearly global decline needed for Net Zero in 2050 and around 1.7 °C warming.
• What drives it: CO₂ makes up 90% of Malaysia's emissions, methane 6.9%, nitrous oxide 2.3% and F-gases 0.73%.
• Historic responsibility: Since 1851, Malaysia's emissions have produced around 23,000 megatonnes CO₂e of warming impact, 0.59% of the global total, or around 14.3 tonnes per person per year.
