  • Emissions: Rwanda emitted around 9.68 megatonnes CO2e in 2024, about 0.02% of the global total.
  • Per person: Emissions were around 0.7 tonnes per person per year in 2024, rated low on a scale where any level above zero adds warming.
  • Trend: Emissions rose by around 2.06% a year over the ten years to 2024, rather than the 4% yearly decline the world needs to achieve Net Zero in 2050 and limit warming to around 1.7 °C.
  • What drives it: Methane made up 47.48% of emissions, carbon dioxide 34.66%, nitrous oxide 16.63% and F-gases 1.22%.
  • Historic responsibility: Since 1851, Rwanda's emissions have produced around 983 megatonnes CO2e of warming impact, about 0.03% of the global total, or around 1.5 tonnes per person per year.
