• Emissions: In 2024, Saudi Arabia emitted around 889 megatonnes CO₂e, around 1.6% of the global total.
• Per person: Emissions were around 26.2 tonnes per person per year, rated extremely high on a scale where any level above zero adds warming.
• Trend: Emissions rose by around 1.5% a year over the ten years to 2024, rather than the 4% yearly decline the world needs to achieve Net Zero in 2050 and limit warming to around 1.7 °C.
• What drives it: CO₂ made up around 78% of emissions, methane 12%, F-gases 8.3% and nitrous oxide 1.5%.
• Historic responsibility: Since 1851, Saudi Arabia's emissions have produced around 30,000 megatonnes CO₂e of warming impact, around 0.77% of the global total, averaging around 25.3 tonnes per person per year.
