• Emissions: Australia emitted around 623 megatonnes CO₂e in 2024, around 1.09% of the global total.
• Per person: This was around 23.3 tonnes per person per year, rated extremely high on a scale where any emissions above zero add warming.
• Trend: Emissions fell by around 8.2 megatonnes CO₂e a year, or 1.25% yearly, over the ten years to 2024-slower than the 4% yearly global decline needed for Net Zero in 2050 and warming of around 1.7 °C.
• What drives it: CO₂ made up around 65% of emissions, methane 21%, nitrous oxide 11% and F-gases 2.4%.
• Historic responsibility: Since 1851, Australia's emissions have produced around 57,000 megatonnes CO₂e of warming impact, around 1.46% of the global total, averaging 34.7 tonnes per person per year.
