Key Messages

• Emissions: Ghana emitted around 54.1 megatonnes CO₂e in 2024, about 0.09% of the global total.
• Per person: Emissions were around 1.6 tonnes per person per year, rated low on a scale where any level above zero adds warming.
• Trend: Emissions fell by around 0.34% a year over the ten years to 2024, slower than the 4% yearly decline the world needs to achieve Net Zero in 2050 and limit warming to around 1.7 °C.
• What drives it: CO₂ makes up around 47.5% of emissions, methane 35%, nitrous oxide 12.5% and F-gases 5%.
• Historic responsibility: Since 1851, Ghana's emissions have produced around 4,310 megatonnes CO₂e of warming impact, about 0.11% of the global total, or around 2.9 tonnes per person per year.
