Key Messages

• Emissions: In 2024, Liberia emitted around 24.4 megatonnes CO₂e, about 0.04% of the global total.
• Per person: This was around 4.3 tonnes per person per year, rated moderate on a scale where any level above zero adds warming.
• Trend: Liberia's emissions fell by around 0.61 megatonnes CO₂e a year, or 2.4% yearly, over the ten years to 2024. This was slower than the 4% yearly decline the world needs to achieve Net Zero in 2050 and limit warming to around 1.7 °C.
• What drives it: CO₂ made up around 88% of emissions, methane 10%, nitrous oxide 2.1% and F-gases 0%.
• Historic responsibility: Since 1851, Liberia's emissions have produced around 2,010 megatonnes CO₂e of warming impact, about 0.05% of the global total, or around 8.3 tonnes per person per year, rated very high.
