Key Messages

• Emissions: Türkiye emitted around 686 megatonnes CO₂e in 2024, about 1.2% of the global total.
• Per person: Emissions were around 7.8 tonnes per person per year in 2024, rated very high on a scale where any level above zero adds warming.
• Trend: Emissions rose by around 19 megatonnes CO₂e a year over the ten years to 2024, or 3.26% a year, rather than the 4% yearly decline the world needs to achieve Net Zero in 2050 and limit warming to around 1.7 °C.
• What drives it: CO₂ made up around 77% of emissions, methane 16%, nitrous oxide 5.9% and F-gases 1.5%.
• Historic responsibility: Since 1851, Türkiye's emissions have produced around 27,200 megatonnes CO₂e of warming impact, about 0.69% of the global total, or around 5.1 tonnes per person per year, rated high.
