Key Messages

• Emissions: Ukraine emitted around 223 megatonnes CO₂e in 2024, about 0.39% of the global total.
• Per person: Emissions were around 5.9 tonnes per person per year in 2024, rated high on a scale where any level above zero adds warming.
• Trend: Ukraine's emissions fell by around 4.61% a year over the ten years to 2024, faster than the 4% yearly decline needed worldwide to achieve Net Zero in 2050 and limit warming to around 1.7 °C.
• What drives it: CO₂ made up around 67% of Ukraine's emissions, methane 22%, nitrous oxide 9.1% and F-gases 1.2%.
• Historic responsibility: Since 1851, Ukraine's emissions have produced around 52,300 megatonnes CO₂e of warming impact, about 1.34% of the global total, or around 8.9 tonnes per person per year.
