• Emissions: Spain emitted around 279 megatonnes CO₂e in 2024, about 0.49% of the global total.
• Per person: Spain emitted around 5.8 tonnes per person per year in 2024, rated high on a scale where any emissions above zero add warming.
• Trend: Emissions fell by around 2.13% a year, or 6.46 megatonnes CO₂e a year, over the ten years to 2024. This was slower than the 4% yearly decline needed globally to achieve Net Zero in 2050 and limit warming to around 1.7 °C.
• What drives it: CO₂ made up 75.9% of emissions, methane 15.81%, nitrous oxide 6.76% and F-gases 1.52%.
