Key Messages

• Emissions: Uganda emitted around 63.3 megatonnes CO₂e in 2024, about 0.11% of the global total.
• Per person: Emissions were around 1.3 tonnes per person per year, rated low on a scale where any level above zero adds warming.
• Trend: Emissions rose by around 0.98 megatonnes CO₂e a year over the ten years to 2024, rather than the 4% yearly decline the world needs to achieve Net Zero in 2050 and limit warming to around 1.7 °C.
• What drives it: Methane makes up 58% of Uganda's emissions, CO₂ 23%, nitrous oxide 20% and F-gases 0%.
• Historic responsibility: Since 1851, Uganda's emissions have produced around 5,540 megatonnes CO₂e of warming impact, 0.14% of the global total, or around 2.9 tonnes per person per year, rated moderate.
