• Per person: Emissions were around 5.7 tonnes per person per year in 2024, rated high on a scale where any level above zero adds warming.
• Trend: Emissions rose by roughly 4.19 megatonnes CO₂e a year, or 2.33% annually, over the ten years to 2024, rather than the 4% yearly decline the world needs to achieve Net Zero in 2050 and limit warming to around 1.7 °C.
• What drives it: Fossil and land-use CO₂ make up around 67%, methane 25%, nitrous oxide 7.6% and F-gases 0.12%.
