• Emissions: Yemen emitted around 33.9 megatonnes CO₂e in 2024, accounting for 0.06% of the global total.
• Per person: This was around 0.8 tonnes per person per year, rated low on a scale where any emissions above zero add warming.
• Trend: Emissions rose by around 0.49 megatonnes CO₂e a year over the ten years to 2024, rather than the 4% yearly decline the world needs to achieve Net Zero in 2050 and limit warming to around 1.7 °C.
• What drives it: Methane made up around 34% of emissions, CO₂ 29%, F-gases 22% and nitrous oxide 15%.
• Historic responsibility: Since 1851, Yemen's emissions have produced around 2,570 megatonnes CO₂e of warming impact, 0.07% of the global total, averaging around 1.7 tonnes per person per year when weighted by population.
