Key Messages

• Emissions: Zimbabwe emitted around 31.7 megatonnes CO₂e in 2024, about 0.06% of the global total.
• Per person: Zimbabwe emitted around 1.9 tonnes per person per year in 2024, rated low on a scale where any level above zero adds warming.
• Trend: Emissions rose by around 0.18 megatonnes CO₂e a year, or 0.6% annually, over the ten years to 2024, rather than the 4% yearly decline the world needs to limit warming to around 1.7 °C.
• What drives it: Methane made up 41% of emissions, fossil and land-use CO₂ 39%, nitrous oxide 17% and F-gases 2.7%.
• Historic responsibility: Since 1851, Zimbabwe's emissions have produced around 3,860 megatonnes CO₂e of warming impact, about 0.1% of the global total, or a population-weighted average of around 4.8 tonnes per person per year, rated moderate.
